The National Tobacco Testing Laboratories (NTTLs) were instituted under the auspices of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. These premier Tobacco Research and Testing Laboratories are strategically positioned at three pivotal locations: the ICMR-National Institute of Cancer Prevention and Research in Noida, the Centre Drugs Testing Laboratory (CDTL) in Mumbai, and the Regional Drugs Testing Laboratory (RDTL) in Guwahati. Envisaged as state-of-the-art facilities, these laboratories are equipped to analyze both smoked and smokeless tobacco products, encompassing items such as cigarettes, cigars, bidis, hookahs, gutkha, khaini, zarda, gul, and qiwam. Additionally, they aim to share their technical prowess and collaborate with global leaders on standard operating procedures, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and ISO certifications.

Recruitment Notification: Temporary Project Human Resource Positions

The Director of the National Tobacco Testing Laboratory, Guwahati, solicits applications from qualified candidates for temporary and contractual roles under a short-term project. Applications must be submitted within 15 days of this announcement.

Position Details:

1. Senior Scientific Officer-I (1 Post)

  • Maximum Age Limit: 45 years
  • Essential Qualification:
    • M.Sc. with a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Analytical Sciences, Instrumentation, or disciplines related to tobacco and its derivatives.
  • Desirable Experience:
    • A minimum of 3 years of research in natural products, synthesis, organic compound analysis, biochemical or pharmaceutical sciences, with specific expertise in testing tobacco products at certified tobacco testing laboratories.
  • Job Description:
    • Formulate and execute analytical methodologies.
  • Monthly Remuneration: ₹65,000

2. Senior Scientific Officer-II (1 Post)

  • Maximum Age Limit: 45 years
  • Essential Qualification:
    • M.Sc. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, or allied sciences; or an M.Pharm., coupled with 5 years of research experience.
  • Desirable Experience:
    • At least 3 years in the research of natural products, organic compound synthesis/analysis, biochemistry, or pharmaceutical sciences, particularly in tobacco product testing at certified laboratories.
  • Job Description:
    • Operate advanced analytical equipment and establish protocols for tobacco analysis.
  • Monthly Remuneration: ₹60,000

3. Technical Officer [Grade III] (1 Post)

  • Maximum Age Limit: 45 years
  • Essential Qualification:
    • M.Sc. in Chemistry, Analytical Sciences, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or an M.Pharm. degree.
  • Desirable Experience:
    • At least 5 years of post-degree expertise in handling analytical instruments, synthetic reagents, or tobacco product testing at certified facilities.
  • Job Description:
    • Conduct instrumental analyses and contribute to protocol development for tobacco products.
  • Monthly Remuneration: ₹58,000

4. Technical Assistant (3 Posts)

  • Maximum Age Limit: 45 years
  • Essential Qualification:
    • M.Sc. or B.Sc./B.Pharm., with 3 years of experience in chemical, physical, or biological analyses and/or computer applications.
  • Desirable Experience:
    • Proficiency in operating analytical instruments and expertise in tobacco product testing at certified laboratories.
  • Job Description:
    • Perform analytical and synthetic tasks and compile corresponding technical reports.
  • Monthly Remuneration: ₹38,000

General Guidelines:

  1. Applicants must submit their applications in the prescribed format, accompanied by self-attested copies of qualification and experience certificates, addressed to:

  2. Separate applications must be submitted for each position if applying for multiple roles.
  3. Misrepresentation or false information will lead to disqualification and may result in legal actions.
  4. Clearly mention the position applied for on both the application and the envelope.
  5. Incomplete submissions will be summarily rejected without any clarification.
  6. Applications received after the deadline will not be entertained.
  7. Eligibility, including age, will be calculated as of the closing date for submission.
  8. Experience will be counted from the date of attaining the minimum essential qualification.
  9. Shortlisted candidates must bring original documents for verification during the interview process.
  10. No travel or dearness allowance will be provided for attending interviews.
  11. Meeting minimum eligibility does not guarantee shortlisting for interviews. The decision of the authority on shortlisting criteria will be final.
  12. Information about the interview schedule will be communicated separately to shortlisted candidates.
  13. Engagement is contingent on project funding and approval from the competent authority. Recruitment may be modified or canceled without notice.
  14. All roles are purely contractual and renewable based on performance and project needs.
  15. Contracts can be terminated with one month’s notice from either side without explanation.
  16. Benefits like provident fund, leave travel concession, and medical claims are not applicable.
  17. The Director reserves the right to accept or reject applications or cancel the advertisement without assigning reasons.
